Conserving carbon in peat in the face of climate change

Penny’s article on peatland carbon conservation is the feature article in CIEEM’s September issue of In Practice magazine, which this quarter focuses on climate change adaptation and mitigation.

In the article, Penny outlines the value of upland peat as a carbon store and the history of upland management in the UK (and the impacts on peat condition). Penny then examines the methods and results of some of the initiatives that have been undertaken in the UK to restore upland peat, including PAA’s award winning SCaMP project (see pennyanderson.com/news/scamp)

The article is available to download here. The rest of the publication is available free to CIEEM members, or you can subscribe to receive the quarterly magazine – please see CIEEM’s website for more details www.cieem.net/in-practice
