PAA Sponsors the Inaugural Future Upland Management Conference

Newton Rigg College in Cumbria is, this week (13th and 14th May), hosting the first ‘Future Uplands Management’ conference. PAA is delighted to be a sponsor of this event, which aims to provide a forum for discussion on the many different and sometimes conflicting elements which comprise the unique landscape of British uplands.

The title of the conference is ‘Future Upland Management: Balancing environmental, social and economic demands’, and takes place against the backdrop of current consultation on reforms to the CAP funding, which could have profound impacts on the management and make-up of the uplands of England, Scotland and Wales.

A wide range of speakers from many disciplines will be presenting over the course of the conference, including Dame Helen Ghosh (Director General of the National Trust), Phil Stocker (Chief Executive of the National Sheep Association), Mark Avery (former Conservation Director at the RSPB) and Professor Robin Pakeman (Professor of Ecological Science, James Hutton Institute).

PAA has a long and well established history of working in the British uplands, including vegetation surveys, condition assessments, bird surveys, Environmental Impact Assessments, hydrological assessments, habitat restoration and peatland assessments, and as such we were delighted to be given the opportunity to attend and sponsor the event.

In addition to sponsorship, PAA is presenting a series of posters detailing our continued work with United Utilities and the RSPB on the award winning Sustainable Catchment Management Programme (SCaMP) project, based in the uplands of North-West England.
